Our featured speakers for the PreFNCE Symposium:

David Perlmutter, MD, FACN, ABIHM is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Fellow of the American College of Nutrition who received his M.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine where he was awarded the Leonard G. Rowntree Research Award. After completing residency training in Neurology, also at the University of Miami, Dr. Perlmutter entered private practice in Naples, Florida where he serves as Medical Director of the Perlmutter Health Center and the Perlmutter Hyperbaric Center. Dr. Perlmutter serves as Adjunct Instructor at the Institute for Functional Medicine in Gig Harbor, Washington. He is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of nutritional influences in neurological disorders.

Dr. Bruce A. Watkins is Professor at Purdue University and Adjunct Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, School of Medicine, Indiana University. In 1999, he was one of the first to be named a University Faculty Scholar at Purdue University. Bruce obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nutrition from Colorado State University and the Ph.D. degree in Nutrition and Physiological Chemistry from the University of California, Davis. He received the 1990 PSA Young Investigator Award and in 1994 was presented the Bio Serv Award from the American Society of Nutritional Sciences for his research on bone. His investigations focus on how dietary lipids and phytochemicals attenuate disuse atrophy and how these dietary factors alter genes of osteoblast differentiation and proteomics associated with bone formation and osteoclastogenesis. Bruce is the director of the International Omega-3 Learning and Education Consortium for Health and Medicine (www.omega3learning.purdue.edu).

Lana Dvorkin-Camiel, PharmD, RPh is Director of Master of Applied Natural Products Program Academic and Administrative Appointments, and an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice Natural Products Division Coordinator. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, and her Doctorate of Pharmacy, at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), Boston, MA. She was a member of the Rho Chi National Pharmaceutical Honor Society. She has written extensively, her most recent journal publication was: Harvesting the Best: Evaluation of Clinician Handbooks on Medicinal Herbs and Dietary Supplements in the Journal of Medical Librarian Association.

Elizabeth Redmond, PhD, MMSc, RD, LD, received her Master of Medical Science in Clinical Nutrition from Emory University in Atlanta and her doctorate in Nutrition from the University of Georgia. She has worked in public health, research, and private practice. She has appeared on CNN, as a speaker at functional and integrative conferences, and is co-author in Laboratory Evaluations for Integrative and Functional Medicine (2008). Dr. Redmond is currently at Metametrix Laboratory. She joined Metametrix in February of 2005 and has served as a Clinical Support Specialist.
