Dear DIFM Members,

Over the past few years, there has been growing concern
regarding the companies that sponsor (provide monetary
or product donations) Dietetic Practice Groups (DPGs).
The DIFM Executive Committee is aware that many
DIFM members share these concerns and has made
every effort to pursue relationships with and accept
sponsorship agreements from companies that
meet our stringent requirements and align within
the guiding principles that lead our DPG.

It takes a significant annual budget to fund our DPG,
including our website, newsletters, and Pre-FNCE
conference, in addition to routine costs. Our funding has
been a combination of annual membership dues and
contributions from sponsors. In order to strengthen our
ability to remain very selective about accepting sponsorship
dollars, the Executive Committee has voted to increase our
membership dues for the first time in many years.
Dues for the 2012-2013 year will be $40. We are confident
that our members will support our decision, which will enable
DIFM to continue making strides in achieving our mission
and vision, while upholding the high standards our
members expect.

There are many exciting opportunities in the works
for the 2012-2013 membership year, and we look forward to con-
tinue being a most-valued resource for
for all our members.

Thank you,

Kathy Moore, RD, CCN
DIFM Chair, 2011-2012

Integrative medicine has the potential to be the dominant form of treatment for people diagnosed with cancer. The talk reviews the pros and cons of lifestyle and supplementation, focusing on antioxidants, fatty acids and specific herbs. The lecture reviews the evidence and goals of co-management of alternative with conventional treatments.
